Alan,
Don't get me wrong. I am always hopeful of short-medium range shots..."BUT...(I know, I know)...my 6,000 acre lease is 100% planted pine trees. The days of seeing the bucks romp around at normal distances are pretty much over. So are days of a working farm with all sorts of crops to lure them in. Modern tactics and modern (translation: extremely accurate) weapons are called for. I shot a 6 pt. whitetail this year at 170 yards. Most shots are quite a bit farther.
Also: I am looking into Berger bullets...We'll see...to be continued.
Best, Capt. Chris
