Rob,
Yes: Correct. I currently have "2" Chandler sniper rifles, both in 308 Win. One is full-size (26" Hart barrel) and one is a 20" carbine. My name as well as my rifle is written up in the 4th edition of Col. Chandler's sniper books series. I've been shooting long range for a few decades. I also have a "Hill Country" in 30-06, which is my #1 "go-to" hunting rifle.
One of the members of my huntin' club recently bought a Sako "TRG" in 300 Win. Mag. and we shot it out to 1,000 with pretty good results, i.e. 6" groups. It has a very heavy 28" factory barrel. I feel I can improve on that with a custom bolt gun. One of our members shot a doe at 1147 yards this year! I'm not into that, but big bucks? That's a different story, provided I have the correct equipment and proper conditions for a good clean shot.
2 members are in the 338 Lapua genre. I think I can achieve what I need with a 300 Mag....and, No: I'm not protested to 300 Ultra Mag. or 300 Weatherby...or 30/378 Weatherby.
Best, Capt. Chris
PS: Here's the "Hill Country" with an 11 point whitetail, shot late one afternoon at 460 yrds....CCS
