I am a proud papa of an old Case 5165 SAB. It is big folding knife with an overall length of 9" opened. The blade is 4" long. I have been looking for one of the these for quite some time. I think it's from the late 70's era. Any info from the experts would be appreciated. Thanks, Jimmy

Jimmy I can't see the Case stamp to well ,but it looks to be made 1965-70.

Hi Jimmy, Great find, purchase and wonderful knife. I own 2 of 6 that I bought all at the same time in approx. 1976. Bought them new at a little country store in the boonies and gave the other 4 to a much respected friend/mentor/woodsman who I learned more about the outdoors, life, the world and survival than I could ever write down in a book. I never saw him without one in the sheath on his belt 'cause "it was the best knife ever made" and had literally saved his life twice. He was a WW 2 Pacific and Korea vet. I still frequently carry the one with the braided, leather thong that he made for me. I'll try to post pix of these in thr next few days. I've tried to find a Case single blade folder similar for years but to my knowledge they've not made one of this quality since.

Prior to 1965, the tang stamp showed "CASE XX"
In 1965, "U.S.A." was added below the "CASE XX"
In 1970, ten (10) dots were added below "U.S.A."

Every year thereafter, a dot was dropped. So five dots would indicate 1975. One dot would indicate 1979.

At the beginning of every decade thereafter, there was a different "code" of ten dots or ten stars or ten stars & dots, to assist customers and collectors, alike.

Like "Pre-64" Model 70 Winchesters, collectors look for "Pre-70" Case knives.

Good info Buck!

My brother gave me one of these big folders when I was 12. New in the box and it still is. Just dug it out and it has the Case XX U.S.A. marking.

Thanks!

Case 6250. I picked this up at the Las Vegas show several years ago. Still working on my picture taking skills, or rather lack there of.

Just a couple of old Case friends getting ready for a cleaning----and they brought along another old friend. They always have a hell of a lot of stories to share.
