Does it look like steel wool or something was used to clean up the blade?

WTH? It is gone. I thought after a certain number of bids the E-bay auction was supposed to run its course, unless a note was made about "for sale in shop" or somesuch? AGGGHHHHHH ... I'm glad I copied the pictures while sitting in the Charleston SC airport this morning. Geezzzzz we probably helped sell this knife.

he'll relist it on Thursday, or so he says. With "more accurate information". Pulling the rug out from under a few people may be cause for a few previous bidders to stay away, myself included.

Jack I believe this is a Johnson....in light of the fact that these knives shipped without sheaths we don't know when Col. Salvo obtained one and could easily have been after Heiser Sheaths were no longer available. I wish Joe would please give me his thoughts or Boblade, Ron Mathews. My money however, until proven wrong is on Johnson.
Since the seller has pulled it there could be several things happening. Somebody talked him into ending the auction and he sold it outright, or maybe he didn't know what it was worth and didn't place a reserve on it and wants to do that. Disconcerting at any rate.

Ronnie, as I understand it, the only "legal" way he can pull an auction on E-bay after biding starts was if the information was wrong, or he previously noted "for sale in shop," or had a buy-it-now price. I guess he defaulted to "wrong information."

The real bidding was going to come down in the last 5 minutes of the auction. All the early bids were setting the stage by and large. Don't underestimate the power of what has been posted on this board to influence the market value of that knife. It has happens a lot in the arcane world of tribal oriental carpet collecting... and they make great backgrounds for pictures of Randalls.

"Legal" aside, it's his knife until it's sold and he can do what he wants with it. Ebay doesn't really care -- as if they are going to ban him for 30 days and not let him sell? Think of the revenue they will lose, that's all THEY think about.

The seller emailed me and said he'd relist it, I was the high bidder at the time and he sent the email to get me to bid again when it's relisted.

Someone probably linked him to this thread and if so... he has all the free info he needs to get an even higher price. Way to go.

It wasn't me Miles. I was waiting for the last couple of minutes to throw some pocket change out there and see what it would do.

yeah, I was going to do the same thing. Just riding it a bit before I dropped out and returned later. This is a forum where we talk about Randall Knives, if a thread helps someone selling a rare knife do well with it then power to them. In the long run, it supports sales prices, great for collectors and resellers.

I think the seller should have added the correct information vs. pulling the listing, but that's his business not mine.

And Jack, I only have one thing to say to you: NICE RUG! smile

eBay will allow you to pulling a listing any time prior to the last 24 hours, no reason needed.
Wish I was in a position to buy, however I will have to leave that up to the big boys this time around.
