I do remember seeing a few of those but don't know how many were made. However, the "serial number" you mentioned is actually the zip code at Gerber's location in Portland.

Late to the game as usual, but I have one of those! Mine was a gift from my wife back in the '60's. Think I might have used mine a little more than you did yours by the condition! I carried it for years and somewhere along the way changed out the scales to Ivory. I notice that mine is marked MADE IN SOLINGEN GERMANY whereas yours is marked MADE IN GERMANY SOLINGEN.
