So...A few of ya'll may remember my Randall Model #3-5", "User". It has shown on several threads in several forums in the past. I "pickled" the blade to prevent future rusting and it has worked extremely well!
This knife has dressed a bunch of whitetails. I would never consider selling it. It was ordered with Randall "shop-supplied" stag with the intention of having a simple, inexpensive knife for sale at the gun & knife shows...until I saw that stag!!
Here's a couple of quick photos I shot this evening of the knife...and there will be a tad more to this story to follow:
Best, Capt. Chris

One of the reasons I say I would never sell this knife is this incredible piece of stag. I knew I could never replace it or find another piece close to it. I was wrong! Check out what came on one of my recent orders. Randall shop-supplied stag handle. First: I knew is was another "keeper", but I didn't have any large jars of pickles. I did have some pepperocinos and olives however. Together there was enough "pickle juice" to take the knife outside, set it on the front winch/bumper of the 'ol FJ and leave it for a day.
Best, Capt. Chris

That's a great idea Capt. I am going to try this on a few of my fighters. Is this the norm for stag comming out of the shop? Great knives. Jimmy

I "wish" stag came out like this all the time! Hardly: I certainly have no complaints with 95% of the stag I receive (and I get more of it than any other dealer, according to the shop), "BUT" (That word again) these 2 pieces came out 6 or so years apart! Couldn't be a better pair as far as I'm concerned. A Model #3 and #5, both in 5" with everything matching! Glad you guys like 'em. Me too!!
Best, Capt. Chris

Nice stag Capt. Chris

If I had received those, they would be part of my permanent collection too.
I am curious, did you ever try cold bluing on a tool steel Randall?

Peter

I have cold blued. I just prefer the "case-hardened" look from being "pickled". Thanks
Best, Capt. Chris
