ZDP holds an edge longer (but takes longer to sharpen) than other steels. So, if you want ease in sharpening, get a softer steel, but you will sharpen more frequently. I have used my Caly 3 for less than a year. It has seen light duty, so has not needed to be sharpened yet. When it does, I expect to use a diamond system such as the GATCO Edgemate, because it is precise and offers a variety of edge angles.
