Here is my Model #14 "Attack"...not the usual 7-1/2" blade but one with a 6-1/2" blade. Here's the story:

"This RKS newsletter article is from the June 1995 RKS newsletter #27. The model #14 Attack has become a mainstay in the Randall lineup. The 7-1/2" full tang knife was designed with military usage in mind from the start. After the design was submitted to the military boards, the Air Force requested the same knife, only with a 5-1/2" blade. Although neither knife was adopted as a military issue knife, they both have become enormously popular styles. In years past, when time allowed, a few of these #14 and #15 blades were made in the 6.5" length."

Nice one Rex!
Before I read your full post I was wondering how you determined the knife to be a #14 with a 6-1/2" blade and not a #15 with a 6-1/2" blade.
How does the stamp on the sheath read?

Tom...

Thank's for the compliment...but I didn't decide on the model or blade length, I have a signed letter from the Randall Authorized Dealer who ordered it from the shop back in the 80's, and he stated what model it was and the blade length, and I believe you both are Texan's !

Don't believe they stamp the "C" sheaths, do they?

They don't "model-stamp" anymore...But they used to...

When did they discontinue the practice, Capt? Don't think I have ever owned a marked one.

The list of "used to's" is a long one.

Thanks!

Back in the rivetd days, #18's, and #15's even had their own model stampings, even though (especially with a #15/ sawteeth) the blade shapes were almost identical. The old (first?) Heiser model "C" style sheaths from the 60's were so stamped. Some had, what I call, "canteen snaps". Pete (Hamilton) always called them "lift to dot" snaps. I cannot address when Johnson did and did not stamp the models, but that practice died quickly. Hope this helps.
Best, Capt. Chris
PS: I don't have a copy handy, but I am sure there are photos of this type of sheath in Pete's book. (unless I'm imagining it...totally possible)...CCS
