If we want to build a knife and complimentary grips, these 3 sets are sure a nice place to start the arguement.

Although I really like all things ivory, I think for practical purposes maybe a set of stag grips for the 1911 or something in G10 or wood are more realistic. Even though we want this to be a special build, I think the cost factor would keep a lot of people from being able to purchase the knife and grips. Just my .02

Stag grips will cost almost the same...if you want nice stag. I don't care what we build...I really don't. I am booked up for 3 years on exotic handle material..."BUT"...(There's that word again)...I'll sure make an ivory-handled Randall...for this centenial milestone...if so voted on.

PS: Remember crew...There's always some really, really nice "wood". Wood and ivory are the only 2 natural materials that I can see truly matching...CCS

I am with the Cap'n on the Stag. They are high and would be very hard to match. This is one if my favorite 1911's and I have posted this one before. I will try to post my very favorite also. It does not shoot as good as the Kimber but has lots of history. Didn't get the Kimber in there for some reason? Will try again.

I spoke with Gene at 7:00 this morning. (Yes: We're both early risers) All of the ivory grips I featured a few days ago are sold. The Lakeland gun show,this past weekend, took care of that. Gene will be making more up but we need to decide which way we're heading with this build.
How about this: Let's decide, now that we have options of "new" Randall models, if we still want to stick with the Randall "Combat Companion" or go with "Sarge" or the new #4-6", "Fighter" or the more traditional Model #1...or whatever. If we concentrate on the knife build (Cause I ain't buildin' the "45") perhaps the rest will take care of itself!
I want to hear from you folks. What do you think.

For a classic like the 1911 ... a classic Randall #1 APFK.

I vote for the new 4-6 fighter with either stag or black micarta handle with finger grooves. I still think if we go with ivory grips the cost is going to take a lot of people out of the bidding for this build.

I am thinking APFK 1-8",sawteeth, brass lugged hilt, brass butt cap (radioused), leather commando, thong hole and brass/black spacers.

I'll go with the Mod. 1 Ironwood or cocobola. Leather handles on the 45 might be a problem

Hmmmm ... has it ever been tried???
