I have an older Ivorite handled Randall that is starting to show some discoloration. I do not believe this is a storage issue. Has anyone else seen this? I think it is simply yellowing, with age. Would you- attempt to clean it (peroxide, or vinegar and baking soda) or let it mellow?

Thoughts?

I would leave it as is, it's a beautiful material. Perhaps in the future it will become as desirable for collectors as the Westinghouse Micarta which also changed color. Does it change color evenly on all sides?

Indeed...It is, most likely Westinghouse.

Others here can identity the material for certain.

If you have the original shop invoice, that would also lock it down.

We like to have them stay pristine, but stuff happens.

No matter how we store non-stainless for example, no matter what preservative we use, they can get blemishes.

I have even had 440C get freckles when stored in a leather sheath.

The shop could probably stay pretty busy cleaning up knives, and do a good job of it, but sometimes it is not worth having it done.

Maybe somebody on here knows how you could clean up the discoloration?

It looks like the yellowing is spreading, based on the density of the material. I suspect the Captain knows when this was made, as it is a 4-6, "Lest We Forget" marked knife, with certificate.

I am going to just let it mellow, and yellow.
