Recently, sand got stuck in the #10 sheath again and I had to spend a lot of time cleaning it out with a toothbrush to keep it from getting dull with use. I always try to clean the blade before putting it in the sheath, but this time the sheath fell into a pile of sand. I noticed that Kydex sheaths are often fastened with belt screws so that they can be opened and cleaned. I think you could do the same with leather sheaths. I'm currently pondering this design. I've ordered the screws; I think they'll arrive by spring. Maybe someone are already doing it and I am again doing nonsense grin

It's a simple sheath made from flat pieces of leather and a side-edge (I don't know what it's right called) that holds the knife on the sides. The bottom layer and the side layer are stitched or glued together. The top layer is held in place only by belt screws. It all looks like a box with a lid

Something that "almost always" gets overlooked, with regards to sheaths, is a "drain hole". Why not have one? Make perfectly good sense to me.
Stay Sharp,

PS: Here's what I'm talking about, standard on RMK's Dicer's knife (Model #16-7"). On a pouch style sheath, such as the 4 & 5" Model 10's supplied sheath it could be drilled through the very bottom...CCS
