Hello everyone from Italy!

I'm Garbino, and I'd like to present my latest work, now from a few years ago, because I don't have a proper workshop at the moment.
It would be a long story, perhaps too long.

In short, I wanted to create something really different, and this is what happened.
I affectionately called this first prototype "Roto," which is short for an italian word: "rototranslante."

I think correct translations cand be "rototranslating" (if this is wrong, correct me, please) or "pivot-sliding" (even if there is no sliding, but only pivots).

I've been thinking about reviving the project, and I'd like to hear what enthusiasts think.

Thank you in advance for any opinions, suggestions, or criticisms.

Best regards and remain available to answer any questions.

Garbino

Very interesting knife.
What are the dimensions of the handle, blade, open, closed?
Thanks

The knife is 202mm (7.95in) long when closed, 316mm (12.44in) when open, and 170mm (6.69in) from blade tip to choil.
The handle is 130mm (5.11in) long from index finger to tail.
The locking system is symmetrical with a double liner, with a retaining system when closed.
The blade and much of the mechanism are made of AISI 440C, the liners are made of titanium, and the two internal shoulders of the handle are made of 1095.
All pins and screws are case-hardened.
The handle scales are made of a sort of plywood made of cherry wood and carbon fiber.
The blade is concave with a 150mm radius (it came out a bit too thin for this type of knife).
The mechanism is very robust and solid, suitable for even heavy use.

The scales have a look like pink ivory. Awesome job. If I had one criticism it would be that the screws, holding the scales on, should be "recessed". This would feel better in the hand and prevent any "blood...mud...scales...hair"...etc. from having a place to "cling to".
Great concept and thanks for sharing.
Stay Sharp,
Capt. Chris

Thank you,
I've been working on the project further since this prototype.
I was asked for a more technical version, which I made in about twenty units.
In this version, I made all the mechanics out of titanium, bringing the weight to just 370g compared to the 410g of the first one.
In fact, as you can see, there are no screws protruding from the handle.
I'd like to bring it into production with a new version.
I was also asked for a smaller one, and I've also designed more compact versions, but I really like the design and size of this one.
thankyou

Looks great!! Is there some kind of lock to keep the knife from folding or does it work like a friction folder?

Hello, and thanks for your question.
I would never have designed a folding knife of this size without including a solid lock.
The lock is double and symmetrical, and is secured by those two figure-eight-shaped liners located above the index finger.
It's impossible to accidentally activate both of them, and there's no need to move your hand from the grip position at the same time, as they must be pressed with the index finger and thumb.
The knife has a locking system in the closed configuration, secured by two small ball-ended grub screws, which prevents accidental opening.
best regards
Garbino
