I have a Joe Kious folder with inlaid coral scales.
The only use of coral I have seen is as scales and spacers.
Can be really a beautiful piece or accent.

If not mistaken, coral is porous. I don't remember seeing any that has been impregnated but think it might be done. Perhaps some of the people stabilizing wood has done some?

I wondered if it would work on a big piece like on a Randall handle or only on a smaller flat piece like folder scales
