I have "lots" of "Honey-Do's" on my plate today. I'm sure I am not alone in this..."BUT"...(There's that word again)...that doesn't mean we can't take a quick break and post up on this Randall forum.
I'm thinking it might be interesting to voice, declare, vent or whine about what RMK you would like to have, Many things, of course, are not doable so don't be "wantin' & whinin'" for an Astro in stag.
Let's concentrate on things that might be do-able, shall we? I'll give you a "for instance": I'd like to build be a matching pair of combat knives (like a #14 & #15) with BCP's! After some reason dialogue on the subject...I just...plain...want "em!
How's 'bout you? Let's hear from you.
Stay Sharp,
Capt. Chris

I've been thinking about a 11-3 1/4 and 11-4 dressed out the same.
Make a nice matching pair for me anyway.

I would like a full tang combat companion with a single finger grip and a reduced hilt.

Or at least a 5-5" with the Model 5 grind blade and small ST. It could be called version 2.0

On the Captain's Bearcamp...

I see what appears to be tight stitching...

And mixed snaps?

Good eye Larry.
Mid 90's saw a brief (depending on model popularity) transition from baby dots to the pewter (logo) snaps. During such times quite a few sheaths, already in house, still had baby dots. Of course, after the transition, those sheaths, when actually "final-snapped", would be...as you see by my example, "dual-snap-featured".
Hope this helps,
Capt. Chris
PS: This is an early "Sullivans Holster Shop" sheath...and I would suspect it is the same stitch pattern as today. Perhaps Danny G. would verify or rectify?...CCS

Came "close" to buying a Bear Camp Special at a show once.

As I looked over a group of RMK's on the table, there was one among them.

When I got the seller's attention and asked a question, he snapped back as if he was angry.

I walked away from what would have been a decent price for the knife.

Can't always fathom what is going on in people's minds, but in some situations better not to know?

Larry

I have had RickT switch the main title of this thread to include: "Possible Build". If we do, indeed, build a knife from all the "wants/dreams" ideas, it will not be as before. I will build the knife, and it will be auctioned off...on this thread...to the highest bidder. That way, we're not coming up short on the raffle #'s..."&"...one of youze' gets a cool RMK!
Just Sayin',
Capt. Chris
PS: PLEASE remember that it will have to be something that's "doable"...CCS

With the new option being charged for a "commando" shaped handle, this knife has 7 options.

Sorry for the question...but were these CC's or 5-5's with teeth?

I can not tell you, if, RMK made 5-5 with ST before 1982, the blade was always the Model 5 grind.
But I can tell you RMK started making Bear Camp Specials in June 1982. I have read 50 were made. They were ordered by a man, Pete Stebbins, through Doug Kenefick. All BC's came with ST.
The first 28 or 29 came with the Model 5" grind. The remainder came with the Combat Companion grind. If you ordered a Model 5-5 with ST today you get a CC grind.

I started in 8/83 and we were still grinding 5-5's w/st...I think the CC started in mid 80's and the similarities and the difficulties to add st to a 5-5 GTR/Dave came upon this decision...

Scott--

Wondering if the difficulty with grinding ST on a 5-5 was due to the way the clip was forged for those blade blanks?

The 1-6 and 1-7 are forged to a wider profile than a 5-5, (ESPECIALLY in the 80's) the CC's provided a "little" extra and was easier to provide the ST...simple decision...

I am in recovery, and at this time I'm not sure when I'll be back to work (trust me if I'm able...)

I count around 14 or 15 forumites who have contributed to this thread/topic. I'll see what else (& "who" else) might want in on this possible build. No more raffles. Auction at the end of it all.
Thanks,
Capt. Chris
PS: Here's another Model #1-6" that's "doable" and within the "5-option" rule..."IF"...you eliminate the "teeth"...CCS
