The cutting board is made from tobacco sticks.
When farmers harvested Burley tobacco in central Kentucky they would cut the plant off just above the ground and then spear it on to a stick that was about 4 foot long. Then hang it in a barn for about 3 months. After the market fell out there thousands of sticks laying around in barns. Its to nice to use as a cutting board but it makes a very nice backdrop.

I've never heard of such a thing, we don't grow tobacco here in such quantities, and we usually dry it on a wire or metal rods
