Hello again everyone!

I have been away for a couple of months due to a very busy time, which didn't allow me to participate in any forums.

But here goes again!

I don't know if I should post this on the Randall Knives section or here. I have done the unspeakable and rehandled a Randall Sergeant's model.

Bought it a couple of months ago, and somehow I wasn't 100% satisfied with how the knife looked (please don't shoot me!)

This is how she looked. There was no sheath with the knife, so that had to be made too.

First remove the leather handle. I wanted to re-use the guard and the spacers.

Hidden tang is becoming visible. I bet not many people outside the Randall shop have seen this.

Everything removed except the guard and the front set of black/brass spacers. The back set was carefully removed and kept apart for later use.
The brass butt cap and nut will not be used again.

That is a lot of work.
What tools do you use to cut off the handle and get down to the tang without nicking and gouging the material you want to keep?
Thank you for posting the process.

I used some wood chisels and a wood rasp at first. At the end I used a fine wood chisel to remove the last sliver of leather from the black spacers.

I had a nice block of Rag Micarta coming from a 2 inch thick floor tile that was saved from a burned down dance hall in Philadelphia before WWII. Got that years ago from American knifemaker W.W. Pease.

Had the idea that would look very nice on this knife. The idea was to give this knife a model 22 handle. Here's a picture of everything pre-assembled.

Thank you for the update and explanation.
I am a collector of Pease knives.
Great idea for the historic handle.

Well, here she is with her new handle and sheath. I must say I really like it a lot like this.
