As soon as I am finished with the cataract eye surgery stuff and things clear up,I plan on maybe going to S.Florida to do some air rifle Iguana hunting and snakehead fishing.
Being I will not fly anymore,I will take the train. First reason not to fly (for me anyway) is that me and TSA really do not play welkl together and I will not put my $3600. Air Force Condor PCP 22 air rifle in the hold of that plane for the baggage handlers to destroy or "lose". They "lost" 1200 firearms the other year.
Anyone have any ideas or suggestions for me?? Guided Iguana hunts??
I would guess that fishing for snakeheads is pretty much straight forward.
No sweat for me packing heat there as I have a FL permit as well as a National Permit.

Billy, I have been told that and I will make sure to get sunglasses.
I guess it takes time for your eyes to get used to clear vision w/o looking through the "fog" of cataracts.

Same on the recommendation for good sunglasses! I vividly noticed the brightness increase on the ride home from the 1st surgery!!

Things are still a bit fuzzy but that will clear up. The left eye will be done mid February.
Distance sight good but I will need readers for close up stuff.

When are you headed down to FL for your lizard hunt and fishing? The show Deadmeat on the Outdoor channel just had a guided iguana hunt and Snakehead fishing guide in the canals that you might find helpful.

Pap, If the plan comes together,it will probably be in early to mid-April.
Thank you for the heads up on the information.
I may use either my Air Force Air Rifle (Condor) 22 suppressed or my Benjamin Discovery 22 air rifle-suppressed for the iguanas
Fishing would basically be a light bass rig with top water lures.

Billy, Left eye was done about two weeks ago. All is clear,no probles.
However the right eye, still has a bit of a "cloud" known as Posterior Capsular Opacification (PCO) which can be cleared up with a simple procedure.
Glad to hear all worked out well for you.
Right now,we still have about a foot and a half of solid ice outside and things are still fairly cold and dreary.
Hopefully a warm up is on the way and I will be able to go out on squirrel safari before season ends. Coyote season is all year long.

Wayne, Z and I just returned from winter break in Marathon, in the Florida Keys. The iguanas are plentiful and waiting for you. A few people we met thought the iguanas were neat, but the majority were all for keeping a pellet gun handy and shooting them whenever you saw them. The HOA maintenance man where we were staying has killed 300 in the last 3 years and is constantly on the look-out. All the folks in the TownHouse complex told us to kill em when we saw em.

David, Thanks for the information. I get a kick watching little Jessican of Iguana Snipers picking them off left and right!
I also put in my tag for a Buffalo Hunt out on Kodiak Island,Alaska and will see if it is drawn in mid May.
Obviously,my Air Force Condor would not be used for that but my Shiloh Sharps 1874 (certainly cannot use that on iguanas!!)

Common recipes for the iguana include stews (guisado), pozole, birria, roasted in tacos and flautas. People in parts of South Florida have started cooking iguana meat after the Florida Wildlife Agency encouraged residents to kill green iguanas on their own property.

Bob, I had heard that iguanas were edible,if fact quite tasty.
The common phrase that they taste like chicken really does not apply there for sure!!
Another invasive species, the snakehead fish,is quite tasty eating as well.

I just saw an article posted by Air Force Airguns talking about Iguana Hunting in the FL area by an outfit called Tropical Trophies.
I sent them an email asking about their program and ak checking to see if they are legit.
It has renewed my interest in this project.

Larry, Those snakeheads were illegally introduced about 20 years ago up in Maryland and spread rapidly.
The only benefit is that they are good eating and the season is year round,no limit.
The Iguanas have caused millions of dallars worth of damage down in FL. No license needed and no bag limits. They too,are good eating but not for me.

Wayne--
Spend half the year, often more in Florida.
Lots of invasives down here.
They are finding Burmese pythons as far north as Jacksonville, and over to the panhandle.
I have been told there are cobras in the Everglades, but that was one person's report who said he had seen one.
We see Customs intercept all kinds of animals and plants people try to sneak in, and they certainly don't catch everything.
And there are those who want to "send" things here to do harm.
Larry

I have been told there are cobras in the Everglades, but that was one person's report who said he had seen one. I saw a hognose snake exactly once, as a kid in Oklahoma. When I walked toward him, he flared up like a cobra. While I think I have a pretty good handle on identifying snakes, I wasn't about to put my life on the line to find out.

Larry, Yep,there are cobras in FL as well as black mombas and a host of other nasties.
Some years ago, during a severe hurricane a tropical snake facility was damaged and the snakes got out into the environment and the rest is history.
