Mike, That is really nice. Are you going to shoot it or just keep it for display???
I think the first ammo was 200 grain FMJ at 850 fps then they increased the weight to 230 grains. I could be wrong on this.
Either way,the 1911 has stood the test of time w/o very many,if any,"improvements" at all.
No wonder that the State of Utah declared the 1911 as their state pistol.

Mike, I agree with the Capt but if you feel that it is not safe to fire the piece then don't.
I have an old Winchester Model 1904 22 bolt action single shot rifle. BBL markings are 22 short, long and extra long.
Obviously an old piece and I do not want to take a chance in firing modern HV ammo in it so just on the occasion shoot CCB caps in it.

Nice gun! If you want to shoot it, maybe have a Gunsmith check it out.

Mike, Glad to see that all worked out well.
The 1911 design is timeless and the cartridge has a superb track record w/o all the magnum bangnum hype.
Some years ago, before autoloaders became popular,Memphis,TN PD issued S&W Model 25s in 45 Colt and they could also use 45acp with half moon clips.
Obviously both cartridge did their job well. Wayne

Mike, I presume that the 1909 will use the half moon clips?
Does it have a lanyard ring off of the grip frame?
I am looking forward to seeing it.

Mike, That is so nice, looks to be in pristine condition.
The beauty of the 45 Colt cartridge is that it has superb ballistics w/o all the "magnum bangnum" fuss and bother.
When you do get it.let us know how it does on the range.
Or..........better yet.........send it to me and I will test it out!!

Mike, That is not finish loss,it is "character" adds flavor to the piece.
I have a Colt Army Special with lots of "character" and history. 1- Went to Cuba with the Rough Riders 2- Went to the Phillipine Islands, puntive raid into Mexico and WW 1 with Black Jack Pershing's outfit 3-Went to Korea with Ridgeway's outfit where it went "missing" 4-Fast forward about 14 years to Feb 16th,1966 when it was "obtained" from a North Vietnamese regular who "did not need it any more"
I occasionally shoot it using only light Trail Boss loads as I consider that the old girl has seen enough.
Old guns with worn finishes have stories to tell.

Very cool Wayne. My Dad was a PT boat Captain in WWII in the Pacific Theater and brought home his whole 1911 rigging including his 45 marked U.S. Navy. When I was about 13, a neighbor stopped by one afternoon and in their conversation, my Dad showed him his 1911 setup. The guy pulled out 3 $100 bills and my Dad sold it to him. Sure wish he hadn't of done that.

Mike, This one was made in 1892. Colt had hopes for an Army contract that did not materialize.
Then when the Spanish American War broke out,the U S Cavalry Volunteers bought some.
You are correct,it is not the special model.

Mike, Photos? My first phone was on the wall that you had to crank to get the operator!!!
It's all I can do to operate this new gizmo. Maybe I will have one of my great grand daughters come over and show me how to do it.

Mike, When it comes to these new gizmos,I just toss up my hands and ask my grand children or great grand children to figure the mess out
Two years ago,I finally broke down and bought a new truck being that my 19 year old truck was on it's last legs.
I got behind the wheel and I thought I was in the cockpit of a 747!!!
Getting back to the thread (sorry for the drift) although I have several of those "automagic" pieces,I always seem to prefer the wheel guns.
Church/security sees me having the Ruger SP-101 with a Charter lightweight snubby.
In the pocket, canoe life vest or fly fishing vest is the North American Black Widow in 22 mag.
Umm,you ever notice that Patton carried two revolvers???
