I have a Joe Kious folder with inlaid coral scales.
The only use of coral I have seen is as scales and spacers.
Can be really a beautiful piece or accent.

If not mistaken, coral is porous. I don't remember seeing any that has been impregnated but think it might be done. Perhaps some of the people stabilizing wood has done some?

I wondered if it would work on a big piece like on a Randall handle or only on a smaller flat piece like folder scales

RMK did a Red Coral handle for Tom Clinton few years back...it cracked terribly during construction...Tom asked that if possible to finish it anyways as it was a special gift for his sick wife and we did...crack is very noticeable. So we decided the material was too volatile and discontinued trying any further with this handle material...
