finally got him!

Although if he were much bigger, he'd just be annoyed at the trap instead of dead.

Windsor,
Ummm,you do have a trapper's license...right??
If they are outside, they make good targets for pellet rifles.

I have seen some pretty sophisticated air rifle set ups with nigh vision used on rats.

No trappers license, I'm just removing rodents from my property. smile

I don't have a good pellet rifle, just a couple of antiques I got from my father-in-law.

Also don't have any NV scopes. Maybe I should talk to the CFO about that.

I put down one bait ball last night and set out the game camera.

This morning the bait ball was gone. Checked the game camera footage and there's yet another mini-rat.

I'm using a live trap this time, mouse traps are really too small. They'll go for a non-optional underwater swim in a 5gallon bucket of water when I catch them.

The sticky pads work the best for me. A dab of peanut butter and a ball of hamburger, gets them every time.

Yeah, my problem is they catch everything else too, whether you wanted it or not.

There is a low shelf that they like hanging out underneath, seen it on the game cam. That might be a short-term solution if they aren't falling for the live trap.

I set up the live trap earlier this evening, peanut butter "gluing" a bait ball to the trigger plate, two of them. Also tossed a couple of "freebie" bait balls in the trap to get them comfortable with entering/exiting the steel cage before going for the good stuff.

Rob--

I do the live trapping of chipmunks that like to burrow around our house.

State division of wildlife said poison them or use spring traps large enough for rats. Or catch and transport to public land.

So I live trap using peanut butter bait and take them a couple of miles to a riverside.

Two years ago got rid of 22 that way.

Would have far fewer if we were not feeding birds. But typically see about 28 species of birds every year.

As for mice, used electronic traps to eliminate a group of eight this past fall. Peanut butter again.

Rocky,
This works on skunks so maybe it may be worth a try with chipmunks.

Get an Exlax bar and grind it up into small pieces and place in a small pan where you think they may be.

Or if you have no rodent pets such as hamsters or gerbils, you can get a product in the mouse trap department at your hardware store that plugs into any indoor outlet and uses the wiring to create a high pitched sound (dogs & cats can't hear it but the rodent pets will) and in about a week......gone!!

I had a mouse problem in the house and it worked.

I put the live trap out a couple of days ago, along with the game camera.

nada.

Not even a looky-loo.

I'm guessing critter #2 got a wee bit of a stomach ache and couldn't make the runs.
