Managed to pick up another one by Reese, but it took a lot of weekends picking up aluminum cans by the side of roads with my family, (At least the kids learned some life skills. )

Stainless steel bolsters and shield. D2 2 1/2 inch blade. 3 1/4 closed. It's smaller than it looks compared to the top one, I had trouble getting them to line up right.

You should drop that stag one in your pocket Mike. These things are all about preformance.

Tony,

The stag has been in my pocket a few times, in a leather pouch, but I haven't cut anything with it yet. The wharnie on the other one is begging to be used.

I can see how domed pins wouldn’t have worked as well with the mammoth since those are flush, and the whole thing is very smooth, but is the decision to use domed pins the rest of the time arbitrary? Are they harder to put on?

Thanks!

On stag or bone which is an irregular material we spin the domed head on the pin. This makes it slightly larger than the hole which gives it a lot of clasping power. On smooth handle materials we taper the hole than carefully peen the hole full to hold it. I don't like domed pins on a smooth handle material.

Really nice pair of knives you got there Mike. Now you need to find a wharncliffe trapper and you will have both blades in one neat compact package. Must have taken a lot of cans.

Thanks for the explanation Tony. You guys are right, having one of these is like keeping a Ferrari in the garage all of the time.

John H; you’re right I need the two-blade trapper now!

Thanks Don. I'd love to get a slipjoint of yours someday.

Kerry, I've been following your knife making threads on BF. Your brother and dad are fortunate to get those knives. Must be cool to put your name on a knife blade like that, especially for your dad.

So is my knife a gent's knife or a trapper? Both since it's small?

It would have been more fun making those knives for them if they didn't beg so much

Look at the Bose catalog sticky http://www.knifetalkforums.com/showflat.php?Cat=0&Number=3090&an=0&page=0#3090

Your stag knife pattern is on the first page, 3 knife down on the right, shown with a Wharny and another with a clip. Tony calls that one a "Gent's Knife".

Thanks Kerry. I guess I need to put my face right up to the computer screen to see those online brochures better, or get the dreaded bifocals.

Have I mentioned that according to Ancestry.com we're long-lost brothers and my birthday is coming up?

Nice(but feeble) try there Mike. At the rate I finish knives, I hope you are using "dog years".
