Yep,you are right on that. There are many factors to consider when dealing with charging animals/humans.

Looks like a pretty nice sized bear there!!! Good thing that it's attention span was diverted to the squirrel.

Attention span with wild game seems to be short. Up in Maine,if a moose get aggressive,just hide behind a tree and it pretty much will go on it's way...………..most of the time.

Speaking of sprays,the first time I used the new product MACE in the late 60s,it had no effect on the person. So much for advertisements!!!!
