Lots of handguns have had matched numbers, going back at least to the SAA Colt. Done to assure parts fitted and test fired together, stayed together, as otherwise an unsafe condition could result, or plain not functioning. Mismatched usually means a parts gun, no matter the type, as widely known, and automatic safety flag for inspection.
