This is the rebirth of the Platts pattern that was last made between 1900 and 1905. The old ones are extremely rare and quite valuable.

The blades in this knife are D-2, main blade has double pulls. Notice that the long pull extends thru to the end of the tang. 410 SS bolsters and liners. SS pinned shield. Red Jigged bone scales.

THe blades occupy the same space and share one back spring. Because of this and the fact that the blades are different thicknesses, this knife requires the use of "catch bits"(spacers added to liners). You can see them in the third image at the top-left and bottom-right near the blade joints.

When I asked where this particular knife is headed, Tony said something about the Carribbean and pirates and ships and stuff

You can see some of the old Platts Swellcenter Toenails

Whoever gets it, I hope he wears suspenders if he plans to carry that in his pocket. I think this Platts pattern was one of the largest and heaviest sunfish/elephant toe/"English rope knife" variations ever made.

Incredible knife!

I could be "roped" into having one of those. How about a pic of you hitting the spine with a mallet to cut some rope? Very nice pics, btw.

She's a beauty for sure and quite a handful. If you ever need to compensate for, let's say, physical shortcomings, this would be the one to carry. Suspenders would definitely be in order.
