Trying to explain to a nine year old about a knife, a single blade knife, that just sold on eBay for $2,000 was truly a challenge. I had to tell him that it cost about twice as much as the Honda Scooter that his mom wont let him have. He just gave me this puzzled look a kid gives when he just cannot relate.

You have to understand …He has been surrounded by sharp “lethal” things most of his life. Whether it’s a TomaHawk, Axe, and/or a Machete or even just a Swiss Army Knife…He is around them…never really carrying what they are worth…more about what he would like to do with one….but that’s a different story….oh and he has seen a couple Bose Knives in his vast 9 years too.

He knows that the knife in question was just made up the road by the old guy with the beard…”what is the big deal?” ….and that’s when I realized, I will just have to wait a few years to teach him about supply and demand and a well made Pocket Knife..in the mean time I will just let him keep on sharpening and playing with the stuff I make.

But this got me thinking….man $2000…Sweet

Its funny…this stamp…

...a little steel, killer Stag….and lots of talent….

Wow…It sure stirred up some bidding on eBay.

So…As a few pointed out…what’s going to pop up…what will be sold on eBay next…..When it comes to a Bose Knife…what is it that people want and why are they so willing to pay all that money?

Very interesting post. It would be hard to explain to a nine year old I guess. Actually, I have a feeling a lot of adults would have trouble understanding it too:)

That being said, it's all about appreciating quality and for those who do a Bose is the ultimate slipjoint. People who want the best are usually willing to pay for it and a Bose is certainly the best.

People will pay $80,000 for a new BMW and drive it every day. I don't understand that, my Ford truck does it nicely for me. I guess there is something for everyone. I never did undrestand that butterfly collecting thing either.

Ha…I wonder if the guy that paid 80K for his BMW would drive it as much if he saw one sell on ebay just like it for 200K?

Eh, When you wreck or lose one BMW you just have to walk to the corner to buy another. They're common!

John,Trevor has grown up around some of the finest handmade custom knives created.Believe you me he is way ahead of the curve in discerning what is quality craft, workmanship and tradition. Sure most nine year olds want Honda's but when Trevor reaches for a pocket knife he'll know what kind of love and passion went into finishing that hand ground D2 blade with sublime amber stag slabs

we all can point to the revelatory moment when we understood all that a custom knife could be
