Greg Allman died today. The Allman Brothers were a big part of the soundtrack of my youth. They were lumped in with the "Southern Rock" movement, they were anything but. Skydog and the boys were much more than that.

The Bros played the Beacom Theater every March. 10-15 shows in a row, Peakin' at the Beacon.

2014 was the last year and I could not be there. It was a true bucket list item for me. But, Greg was sick for three shows, and they rescheduled them for October. Two buddies and I paid the scalpers, bought plane tix and spent four great nights in NYC. We saw them on the 24th and the 28th. The Allman Brothers last show.

So, I am sitting here tonight with a Bourbon on the porch listening to recordings of both shows.

Good music. Good friends. Good memories.

Favorite albums Eat a Peach, Live at Fillmore.
Saw them on Long Island in the nid 80's with Stanton Anderson Band another local southern rock band as the opener.

Mitchell,

I also grew up with Allman Brothers music and always felt comfort in their music. Sweet Melissa, Crossroads and many many more.

Saw them in early 71 on Pensacola Beach in a small beach bar. I remember sitting on the floor about 10 feet from the stage. One of the best shows I ever saw.
Saw them again about 6 or so years ago at the N O JazzFest with Derek Trucks and Warren Haynes on the geets, Chuck Levell on Piano and Susan Tedeschi doing some backup vocals. I was shocked at how good they were after all these years. Talent begets talent.

Thanks to folks here, last year I discovered the Tedeschi Trucks Band. Lo and behold, they put on a show right here in Tallahassee this past weekend. Fantastic! Tedeschi has an amazing voice and the guitar play by her and Trucks was incredible.

Incredible....amazingly creative musicians now & over the decades. Inspiring musicians for a 3 man boy band trying to learn to play their instruments by listening to those AB albums over & over again until you could hit every note....plus add a few of your own.
The world's lost several wonderful musicians in the last year or so.
