BEAUTFIUL SET!! A large set just sold on feebay but it had some copper plated as well..It was not as large as yours, but stunning as well. Trying to get info on Shaw Leibowitz past custom/production runs is not easy from my experience.. I own 3 SL custom knives.. I have look for info about SL from Hibbens, and a few other season people in the community, but its hard info to find.. KNIFE WORLD in 2001 wrote a GREAT article on the history of Shaw and Leibowitz- about 5pages long..I have a copy if you need me to scan and email it i could.. Unfortunatly if wont help you find info about your set..

here are a few of mine

Dax,

Never saw the Mermaid/Merman Knife before, looks pretty nice-unique.

Thanks, the set was broken up and sold off part and then I liked the 6 figuring that maybe I will be lucky and pick-up some stragglers. I will search for the article, thanks for the reference.

I also have the Lewis & Clark Randall plated and the Black & White.

Thanks Peter,

Picked-up the last 2 knives I was missing in the silver plated finish so I can make my display out of Maple & Walnut. Will post pic's when done. Still looking for the gold plated Boston Tea Party & Shot Heard Round the World. A work in process.

Work in process-The Shaw Leibowitz Bicentennial Knives Display is nearing completion. The Maple block was shaped to the Lower 48 and then cut in all 10 of the knives individually. A lot of sanding & fitting!!!!

I added the picture of the wall placque that I had seen done in green felt on plywood by unknown, that was what got me started on this. Looks a little better in Maple & Walnut!

Mounted the Maple block onto a Walnut back panel and clear coated. Completed the Walnut frame and have ordered the glass. Only things left to do is to fit the glass stops and top-coat the Walnut frame. Place the knives and hang the display.

This was a lot of work but I think it will showcase this collection well. Will follow-up with pic's when done.

That is a stunning display Tom. That board looks like laser cut precision. Wish I had the time and patience to tackle a job like that. Oh and the knives, outrageous!

One other thing I'm not seeing is joint lines. Is that veneer Tom.

Warren,

Maple is a 1" thick edge-laminated block of solid plain sawn Maple; like a wide board butcher block. Solid, so that when I cut each knife it was solid all the way through the cut edge without showing a ply edge or MDF edge if it were veneer.

The Walnut back panel is veneer however, the edges will never be seen.

Wow!
Be sure and show us the progress as you build an addition to your house for more wall space - maybe some built-in's?

Tom,

You know what Chief is thinking? Just start collecting all those small knives and leave the big ones for him. They take up less space laugh
