Best as I can tell. This is where you sometimes get into what is not a "popular" model relative to say a model 1 or model 3. There were sheaths sitting in there that got pulled out and used, irrespective of who made it.

The model 11 looks mid 50's so I dunno on that one. Could have been in the bin, a replacement I suppose, or a new keeper put on later.

Just an FYI, I know a guy that got a low "S" model 8 out of the shop in the mid-80's. I have seen a low "S" model 3 at the shop that is used as a pattern as recently as a few years ago. So, you gotta consider this isn't always like turning on and off a faucet when are considering what went on at RMK.

Is that stag model 4 a separate "S"??

TAH,

The guy lists that one as a 1947 knife. That is wrong. It's an early 50's piece. For a while in the early 50's they ran out of Brown buttons and used steel. Here are two more form that period.

Appears to be a Heiser/Denver snap, combined with the terra cotta fish hook stone, would place it '50-51.

Mitchell,

Yep, I am familiar with the temporary steel snaps. The one I posted has a Heiser snap on the keeper that is of "baby dot" construction. Joe said he has never seen a baby dot type snap on a Heiser/Randall sheath, so I thought he would find it interesting.

Rod,

Those are not my knives. Just photos for discussion purposes. What are your thoughts on the snaps on your sheath?

I have seen (in hand, not photos) more sheaths than I can count, some with Heiser on the snap, but I have to say, that most that I recall were of the glove type. Not saying I didn't have any of the baby dot type in my hands, just never put any weight into it. I don't believe any of the Heiser marked snaps were beyond the mid 50's though.

Obviously there are a few examples out there, apparently very few, well one maybe, but there nonetheless.

Funny thing is though, keepers are set at RMK. Maybe RMK had a few Heiser buttons around the shop? Hmmmm.

I think Rod's sheath definitley has a replacement keeper and it appears to be a smaller snap than on the model 2.

Tom
To me it seems strange that we would see a few sheaths
with the BB, Baby Dot combination.
But I don't doubt Joe's opinion. He seen more RMK sheaths than most of us combined. In summary, I have to go with Joe's thoughts.

Joe,

Check out the keeper snap on this Moore sheath. No doubt a replacement, but they have the female portion on the bottom. That would drive me nuts. Cool knife and sheath, never-the-less. What is the timeframe of this knife and what's the story on the blade shape? Was this the "Hunter" model before the Model 3 blade shape came to be?
