I am not a snap aficionado, so help me out. What sizes do they come in?

I have the same sheath sitting here, that is one reason. Follow the link.

Second, Heiser never used a baby dot on a knife sheath that I have ever seen. I don't know anyone else that has ever seen one either. If you can produce one, I am all ears.

Third, Gaddis states that Maurice Johnson introduced the baby dot snap. He also stated Heiser did not have the ability to use them. More importantly, Heiser was basically out of the picture when it was introduced it to RMK.

If you want to believe something else, which it seems you want to do, more power to you.

I'm not arguing about the original sheath you posted.....you won me over on that. All I'm saying is that looks like a baby dot to me......without holding that sheath in my hand I cannot tell you if it is or isn't. I really don't know how you can. Baby dots come in small and large sizes.

I am truly not getting where the disconnect is.

Again, what sizes do baby dot's come in? Did they come in various sizes from inception or were sizes added over time?

Ronnie,

I think Joe is correct. Here is a Heiser holster with a silver snap that looks like a baby dot from the front, but is not.

Will the real baby dot please stand up...

Hold on, here's a holster from around 1954. So the question of the day is, did Heiser in fact have the ability to use baby dot snaps???

I don't recall ever seeing that Heiser named snap with that particular female female portion, or just didn't pay attention when I did. Definitely not on a Heiser knife sheath from any period. Interesting.

something reserved for saddlery i.e. holsters & bags? All the Heiser logo snaps on sheaths I have seen have the nipple type snap but I better go look. I have seen the nipple snaps on holsters also.

From the auction:

"The strap attached brass/steel combination convex surface brass snap button fastener has the embossed triple H center design logo with HEISER DENVER stamped around the circumference. The snap fastener assembly was made by the U.S. Fastener Company with the holster body fastener portion of the assembly being made of brass."

I don't think I have ever seen a Heiser RMK sheath snap actually made of brass. I think it is brass plated to inhibit corrosion. Brass would be too soft.

For conversation sake, what if the sheath in question is a Heiser with a Randall stamp and for whatever reason, Heiser switched to baby dot snaps at the same time they switched stamps. It wouldn't be that hard to do if they were already geared up for baby dot type snaps.
