This was my first “real” knife at age 11. Still carry it all the time. Back then, Buck pocketknives were made by Camillus. This little knife is somewhat unique as it has stainless bolsters which were soon switched to nickel silver for the remainder of the Camillus contract, which lasted until around 1990. This knife also carries the early and short lived "MADE IN U.S.A." stamp.

Certainly more information than necessary, but interesting and fun to notice little changes just like Randalls.

Thanks Guido and Peter.

A couple of weeks ago, I stopped by the Buck exhibit at the NRA Convention in Indianapolis and met CJ Buck - 4th generation owner. CJ was super nice and made me feel like I was the only person that mattered at that moment. I walked away feeling even more proud of carrying this little Buck knife.

I think everyone would agree, when it comes to knife collecting, we don't just collect the knife, we collect the people behind it. No wonder companies like Buck and Randall are so respected. smile

Thanks Tony. I figured you would be along soon. I know you have a soft spot for Bucks too. Love your 317. It's a beauty!

I've always thought that "Buck" meant quality. I've always liked them, although I only have a couple.

Your photo of your little 309 leaves me lacking in photo skills but I have enjoyed the years either of the little Bucks have been in a pocket of dress slacks......a real knife in a little package! Tony isn't the only one to enjoy #317 either. I guess I've "retired" mine but, who knows? My legs still work and I still hike & hunt.....just not as fast, far and not nearly as often as I'd like. That Buck probably feels the same.......

Duke,

Nice little collection. Thanks for the photos! I like these older 300 Series knives with their long pulls, flat grinds and brass liners. There was a lot more handwork in these knives compared to today's knives.

Pat,

Thanks for your comments! It's hard to beat Buck's performance, value and lifetime warranty when it comes to production knives.

Tom,
You gotta' way with your pics and with your words. Your description sums up exactly the reasons these appeal to me so much. The whole package plus the feel in hand, and your experience with the Buck company/family, can't be beat. Thanks for your posting your shots.
