Tony made this carver out of D-2 and hafted it with ivory. I made the sheath and Tony added the grommet so he can hang it at his bench.

Cleanly done and of course, a lovely and most useful knife!

I may need make one for myself, but first things first...

Hey thanks Gary! I appreciate the encouragement. I used the method you explained to me to wet form the sheath and I was happy with the way it turned out. I made my forming tool out of plexiglas.

One thing I have been struggling with is getting that great color of your sheaths. I used Fiebings British Tan on this one and Light Tan ends up looking somewhat orange.

I use Saddle Tan from Fiebings called:

Fiebings Pro Oil Dye 4 oz Saddle Tan

Plus it also depends on the leather, I use leather from
an expensive source, but good quality;

Wickett and Craig

I haven't used the oil dyes yet but will give that a shot. I can imagine how good quality leather would make a big difference as well. Thanks much for the tips.

True, as long as you warm it up in yer pocket first. Nose-hair puller too if you trap em between it and your thumb and give it a quick yank (the pulls...not the knife)

Here's the cradle I carved out of solid foam
makes it handy when working on sheaths, I also
have a T shaped one with tools stuck into it,
also helps keep the table top free of clutter
and easier to locate the tools when needed.

The foam cradle is a great idea. I'm going to do that with a slight modification...glue a 1/4" hardwood block to the bottom of it for some weight.

That's a good idea, a bit of weight to help keep it stable.
