Hello, newbie here. I hear having a fuller in the blade weakens the blade and also heard it does not. Personally I would prefer not to have it. Once had the Randell Made Smithsonian bowie.
Wish I never sold it. Thanks for all info.

Yes, the blood grove was quite the "fad" for a long time. Don't know where it started or who gets the credit, but it just isn't a practical design. Doesn't do anything to allow the "blood" to flow from the knife. If anything, it allow the blood to "pool" on the blade, thus making it harder to clean and possibly add more of a rust opportunity if left for very long.

You can always get back into the Randall fold, first by joining the Randall collector's club further up on this forum. Then go buy a nice Randall and start the itch.

The blood grove was used before on longer blades to get a good balance on the blade.Made properly it didnt weaken the blade. O n smaller blades it's probably only for estetical function.

It's a myth some says it's because it's easier to take the blade fast off the body after hitting it with blood grove.
I know my old granpa when he lived said the Finns did the blade tip dull before going to action in the forrest against the russian soldiers ww2. He said the blade stuck in to the bones if the blade tip was to sharp and them had no time for that in close combat.
