OK Crew,
New computer is hooked up (Despite Dorsky tryin' to talk me into breaking the bank and going "Apple"). Let's start this #6 "starter" from the beginning. I appreciate all of the input from you so far, especially the "photos". Let's make a couple of basic decisions to our building plans before we venture too far into this project.
How about a "ROLL CALL" vote for one of following:

A) Complete Carving set (knife, fork & steel)

B) #6-9", Large filet knife (Comes with a single hilt and sheath)

C) Model #6-4 1/2", Steak knife

D) Large filet and matching fork & steel.

I think I know which way this'll go...but let me hear from ya'.
Thanks, Capt. Chris

Just for content: The very first #6, Lg. Filet I ever made. (2003)...

Hoping the 6th starter set is still a doable build. Micarta (bone linen or black)is a very good way to go. If you ever decide to have steak knives made the micarta will be easier to match. Walt RKS#5924

Well
I don't care if we go with all or not but I do want a hilt and sheath for this build. Man Cap that wood is so fine looking. You have anything similar to put on a nice knife for me?

Capt.,

Isn't "A) Complete Carving set (knife, fork & steel)" and "D) Large filet and matching fork & steel" the same thing?

Also, is it possible to do a combination of B) and C), call it E), to have a pair like you posted on the first page?

ETA: I just cut some meatloaf for a sandwich, and realized the slicing knife I used has a handle shape just like the one you posted above on this page. Guess what handle type I'm going to vote for now. wink

OK: 1st shot is a Model #6-9" Carving knife with "reduced" hilt...
2nd shot is a #6-9", Large Filet with single hilt...
Best, Capt. Chris

I found the "Randall #6-9", Filet Knife... New for 2011 !!" thread in a search and I think I got the differences now.

I vote:

D) Large filet (Non-Catalog Model) and matching fork & steel.

(assuming my proposed option E is not possible)

I think I will go with the large Filet and matching fork and steel. It goes to say if it can't be Ivory then I would like stag. I could be talked into some very striking wood also.
