In the spring, up to around the 1st of May, the elk are all bunched up and keep that field pretty well short. Once the high country snow starts to melt and show bare ground, they follow the new green and split off from the herd to have their calves. We mow that field at least twice as a fire deterrent. We used to have it baled but that guy passed away and can't get anyone to do that anymore, so we just bush hog it. Once the fall rains come, the elk will be back with their new calves and will start eating my flower garden. Lol
