Wintered over in Antarctica in 68-69 as a member of the Navy's Operation Deep Freeze supporting science research.
We observed a record low of 121.5 below zero F that year.
One trick was throwing a pot of coffee outside and hearing the crack as it froze before hitting the ground.
Zero humidity and we used Corn Huskers Oil to keep our skin from cracking. We kept the inside temp around 55 degrees F and it felt comfortable.
