Reading that authentication is confusing. Pete says the top quillion was removed and the stag handle "sanded down". By who? The shop, or is he inferring the knife has been altered after it left the shop?

Some of your guys need to brush up on this stuff!

Johnson brown button sheaths were not made for but a short time the best I can ascertain, perhaps not more than 6 month from mid to late 1962 to early 1963 when Maurice Johnson switched to baby dot snaps.

Many of the period you see with brown buttons are HKL, the last incarnation of the HH Heiser company.

The baby dot for the 8-4 is totally correct. The double brown button for a low "S" could also be correct. Granted, most we would assume would have been used up by 1964, but it is obvious in this case, at least to me, there was one lingering.
