Water Moccasins (also known as Cotton Mouths) have been known to have a nasty reputation,and from what I have heard and seen from the above post,will not back down and slither away.

In New England there are some venomous snakes but they are very few and far between.

When fly fishing I always have my Bond 410 (2.5) in my vest pocket not really so much for the pretty much non existant snakes but for the two legged variety of critters.

I met a gentleman a couple of months ago who was visiting folks east. He was from the Midland area of Texas. Said it is generally common to have to have a J frame or maybe a Bond in a back pocket holster.

Seems that there are a number of encounters each week with some sort of snake.
