You don't have to do the horse back ride, although it be a very interesting ride. You can drive to the visitor center and get an excellent idea of the historical situation. That whole area in and around Montana and Wyoming is way different than I originally thought it would look like. While in the area don't miss a visit to Buffalo and CODY, Wyoming.
