Remembering back in the mid 80's I was advised to head space the Win 30-30 on the shoulder, not the rim. That supposedly compensated for a loose lockup on the early Contenders.

You had to hand load your cartridges, of course, and back off the loading die a few twist until it worked. Too much work for a new hand loader (me) so I traded the 30-30 barrel for something else.

Somewhere in my collection of T/C stuff I have the first four or five years of the Thompson/Center association magazines. That's where we got all of our Contender scoop. This was before Al Gore invented the internet.
