Was the Model 8 that Major Powers carried on that fateful day in May a new grind or an old grind?I remember a post where someone put up some photos taken inside the museum in Russia where his equipment was displayed but can't find it.

I believe it was an old style.

That hilt looks "full" for an "Old Style". I'm sure it came in a split-loop belt sheath. Is there a more close up view?

Captain,Bob,thanks for the replies.I did some googling and the new grind came out in 63 and the U-2 was downed in 60 so it would have to be an old grind in the photo. That guard does look bigger like the Cap'n says, and the blade a little full in that pic though.

Tried to enlarge and clean up a portion of the picture for you folks, but it still doesn't seem to be quite clear enough...

....well it just goes to show you what the 'Russkies" at that time in history valued most...they released the U-2 pilot Gary Powers..and kept the Randall knife. grin
