I bought the three folders in the past month, but only have got my hands on them in the past week.

The first knife is a T.A. Davison with a Dark Blue Jigged Bone scales.

Second knife is a Keith Johnson knife with a Lanny Clip. The scales are amber jigged bone.

Third knife, my favorite, is a Bret Dowell, Saddlehorn Design.

Three beauties - congrats, Rod!
I can't tell it from the pics - has the Davison really blue scales?
The LC looks great too. Very nice knives smile

Yes the Davison has very dark blue scales. I heard, and read, that Davison makes great knives and now I have one, I agree. Great F and F.

Rod,
That Johnson knife? Does he make that with a lock? Nice knife.

Capt.

I do not know if he makes a similar knife with a lock. I bought this knife second hand. All of his knives I have seen have been slip joints.

Looking at Johnson's website "Great River Forge", I don't see any lock back type knives. He has contact info on his website.

I don't own a Pena knife, but I have handled a couple. He makes excellent knives, from what I have seen.

Ciao Guido, congrats to your newest acquisitions!
I don't own a Peña but all the pictures I have seen show very clean grinds and a classic look.
I love that trapper - he has captured the true spirit of the original 1123 Remington imho.

Looks like you getting there, Rod. Just make sure your focus point is on the handle instead of the blade. Some cameras allow you to magnify the review photo to check for sharpness in the areas of concern. An aperture of f8 to f11 is good to use, and a tripod is essential.

If your camera cannot be fitted with a remote shutter, use the self-timer feature on your camera. If you have a choice between 2 seconds and ten seconds, use the ten seconds to allow the camera to "settle down" before the shutter trips.

The new Photo thread should be ready to install on the forum sometime next week. Rick has approved the thread and location, and we are working on the introduction page format.

Hang on a little longer.

Thank you. I have one more 2 blade Dowell that I will get some
pics of tomorrow.

Buck I went out and bought a couple more lights and it helped. But
I think I might need two more. I use a tripod, light tent and a timer on the camera.
I have, well my wife has, an "wireless shutter release" on her camera, which I use.

I have been shooting at F11. I too thought the brown color on the Fossil
Ivory was out of focus. But when I looked at the knife, the pic is representative
of what the FI looks like.

The belt buckle ( I will take a picture in the next day or so) was a gift from one the folks here on the Forums.
It is a Smith and Wesson buckle. On the back is the date 1975. The scene on the buckle is taken from "the Hostiles" one of the series of paintings commissioned by S&W in the early 1900's.

Thanks for the pix, Rod - beautiful Dowells! I like that Wharncliff Trapper a lot. Pure and straight with the shadow construction but elegant nevertheless. smile
I'm trying to convince him to build me one, too but he is very busy.

Rod, that' a very nice belt buckle you have. With the original Bianchi holster a S&W 6060 Folding Hunter would go nicely with the buckle. It was made in the seventies, too.

That's really a great looking folder. How big is it as compared to, say, a Buck 110?

Pat, it's a rather large knife. At 4.5" closed it's a tad shorter than the Buck 110 (4-7/8"). The blade is 3½ inches long, overall length open is 8 inches. The blade pivots on a full 3/16” diameter pin so it's quite a handful.
I was told that it was part of the "Sportsmen's Series" when S&W decided to build a range of bench-crafted quality knives in the seventies. Design by Blacky Collins, built by Mac Lyle for S&W. These knives were produced in different models including the Bowie (Model 6010), Skinner (Model 6070), Outdoorsman (Model 6020), Survival (Model 6030), Folding Hunter (Model 6060), Fisherman (Model 6050) and the Fisherman-Fillet (Model 6040).

Got this two bladed Bret Dowell folder from a fourmite. I am really happy with the knife. It is a prototype Dowell.

I have a baker's dozen Dowell's and another on its way later this fall. IMO he makes an excellent knife for the price. I carry one everyday.
