My 112 that I have owned and used since I was 12 years old. It's been on many trail rides. I bought this new (old stock) sheath and replace the Buck snap with a sterling, hand engraved, snap. Original black sheath is enjoying semi-retirement.

Thanks Rick and Rod. The handle is near perfect, but the blade has a few honest scratches that remind me of my childhood. Amazingly, the blade still locks up tight in all directions.

kalervo, Buck did a limited run on 112's with stag. They are commonly offered on eBay. Here's one from a completed auction...

That 112 stag is an excellent knife. I am going to get in the market for one of those. Off to e-bay. Thanks for sharing.

When I focussed on US made folding knives in the late 1970's the 112 Ranger was my first love. But in those times they were nearly impossible to get in Germany. A sled-dog musher friend from Switzerland, who had lived in Alaska for some years, did import my first Bucks directly from a knife shop in Anchorage.
BTW I also had noticed a Colt Barry Wood, which my Swiss friend always carried in the pocket of his parka, reminding him on his Alaska times, where a locking folder without spring would be better in harsh and cold weather conditions.
And of course I have that knife too in my actual collection.

Let me show You my two first edition 112s from 1969, brass spring holder and black Micarta scales. The integral bolsters and liners are of cast brass, which You can see on the inclusions, even factory polished. One has been refinished by Leroy Reemer, who had worked at the Buck Custom Shop in the 1980's, the other one is original. And I love that original black leather pouch with lots of character. I would be curious to know, what stories those two beauties could tell.

Uli, there you have some great knives :-)

Very nice, Uli. I have always preferred the 112 over the 110. I like the overall size and shape of the front bolster better. I also like the clean look of just two small brass pins in the handle and no nail notch in the blade. Two features that were eventually changed.

Although very similar, my very first hunting knife was a Schrade Uncle Henry LB7 with Rosewood scales that I still own today. Years later I bought a Buck 110 at a yard sale which I handed down to my very best friend. He still carries this knife today. They were all quality construction and good steel. They sharpened to a razor's edge. I never did own a 112, maybe someday huh?

Updated pic with different sheath. This custom sheath was offered in the early 80s. Its quality rivals RMK sheaths. Makes me wonder if Buck contracted with a local saddle shop to do the work.

I really like Carl's sheaths. The design and tooling is usually very tasteful and not over done. Here's one that the buyer paired up with a Hattori copy of a RMK 5-5. It got me thinking...

I'd like to add my 112 that I bought in the PX in Heidelberg in 1981 and carried and used for years.
It was "my knife". The one that started this madness...

That's a beauty, Peter. From its condition, I can tell it was special to you. Looks like the sheath did a good job protecting it.

Those 3 dot 112s are hard to pinpoint the steel type. Could be 440C or 425M. 1980/81 was the time frame that Buck made the switch.

Not having much knowledge on Buck knives, what is the difference between a 110 and a 112? Is the 112 just a smaller version of the 110?

Yep, that's about it. The front bolster is shaped a little different on the 112. The 55 is even smaller. Here's a quick internet photo.
