Just got back from Tulsa and..."What A Trip"!! (Take that in "all ways possible") I thought I'd share some pics of a way-cool Model #5-7" that I took in trade at the show. This knife should interest a lot of folks.
* VietNam War vintage knives
* Military knives
* Hunting knives
* Stag handled knives
* Johnson roughback freaks
* Artistic/engraving fanatics
* 7 spacer dudes
Come one, come all. This is a splendid example of a knife that ain't pidgeon-holed into one area. I have seen (even tried) some blued blades before and most just don't get it. Whomever did this one...Nice Job!!
The engraving does not appear to be signed but looks like examples I have seen (and owned) by Louie Sanchez! I mean every single area that could be scratched on is covered on this "old, squared" style brass single hilt. The stone is white but may not be the original. It is slightly thinner than current stones but seems a tad too abrasive.
Anyway: It's a nice conversation piece...so: PLEASE: Have a conversation.
Stay sharp, Capt. Chris

I wonder if that's a cold blue? I really like the nut/cap on the end, very cool.

Capt.

Your opinion, does it appear that the front of the sheath has been waxed or polished? Not Sullivan's type waxed, shoe polish type wax/polish. I ask this, as the stitching on the front looks darker than the stitching on the back.

The sheath has been "darkened" somehow. I don't know what product was used but the sheath is quite dry and gives no clue as to exactly what was used. The whole rig is in great shape and I feel that "whatever" was used...was used a good long time ago.
Best, Capt. Chris

Is it my imagination or does the back of the sheath say it's for a Model 1-7 ?

Same sheath, used for #1's and #5's during that time period.

I really like your "new" knife, Captain. The engraved guard and concho are wonderful. It appears the concho is sterling. Great find!

I thought I would bring the Model 5 thread to the top again. In the last 1 1/2 years I have bought/acquired two older Model 5's. Neither had sheaths.
I bought a sheath for the 5-7 a while ago, but only recently found a sheath for the 5-8. It isn't perfect, but considering it is around 60 years of age, it is not bad.
I have come to realize buying older sheaths, by themselves, price wise, can range between, "not bad" to "dear, we need to take a mortgage out on the house".
The 5-7, which I think is a late 40's to early 50's, based on the spacer arrangement. BUT I have been wrong before, many times!!
