Here's a well used early 1960's model 1-8, if they could only talk, probably have some interesting stories. What's unique about this one is the sharpening stone, at least unique to me because I'd never seen one before, a solid piece of steel, maybe someone in the know can share their thoughts or opinions...

There was a steel like that in the pocket of a 1972 Schrade-Walden model 171 UH Pro Hunter that I bought. I don't know if Randall ever used those; might be a replacement. Repeat: I don't know if Randall ever used those.

The origional stone could have gotten lost and the owner cut a piece of steel to fit the pocket, just to keep the shape. It doesn`t look like the steel piece has any sharpening qualities at all, but that`s just my oninion. A really nice old Randall tho!

The wood is ironwood. I was lucky enough to have the original owner send me the original order form!
Topos that is one awesome handle material!
Thanks for the comments the stag on the 1-8 with saw teeth no sawteeth grind is redder than the picture leads on.
