.....until further notice, and in consideration of Covid problems, the Randall museum will be closed until further notice. I just wanted members to know this, in the event anyone was planning a trip to visit.
I'll keep ya' posted.
Best, Capt. Chris

About 41,000 people have died in Fl. so far. Think about that.
357 just yesterday.
1310 in Orange County alone.

This post was not meant for negative responses or banter...back & forth. I'll say no more as I promised I would not..."BUT"...the shop has, indeed, very good reasons for this closure. I just didn't want anyone to "make the pilgrimage" to The Museum and be disappointed with it's closure.
I'll let everyone know when it re-opens. Thanks...and, on behalf of RMK, thanks for your understanding.
Best, Capt. Chris

I am planning to drive down and spend the month of January in the Keys. Have had a reservation for quite a while.
I thought about going to see the museum on the way down or on the way back.
Hopefully, the museum will resume operation before then.
Thanks for the updates

From another source, but one major reason that the museum is closed.

"Just wanted to let everyone know that our friend Scott Maynard, Randall Shop Forman is in the hospital and on a ventilator with Covid. I talked with Gail today who also has Covid including her son and wanted me to let everyone know, and to send as many prayers and well wishes as we can.
I know we are a small community, but sometimes the power of prayer may be just enough to get him through this.
God bless Scott, and Gail, and the doctors and nurses at the hospital to get our friends through this".

What the original poster of that info failed to mention is which Son. Daniel as of now is not Covid positive, and able to visit his father in the Hospital. Still, your point is valid Larry, 3 good people!

Been to Florida for work several times over the years.
Always visited the Shop and the Museum (in the Shop).
I hope at some point to be able to see the Randall Home/new Museum that was opened some years later.

I CAN WAIT.

NO IDEA HOW MANY SICK IN FLORIDA BUT YOU HAVE ALMOST TWICE THE NUMBER OF DEATHS THAT MY STATE HAS HAD.

The most recent report I received was a mixed bag. Somethings are a little better..some things going back a bit. I agree with TTB. Scott will beat this thing. Judging from a week ago, until just now, he's making progress. That's all we can hope and pray for at this moment.
On another + note: Aaron, along with his lovely Bride, got tested (again..."ugh") this weekend and they finally failed! YEAH! Negatives for the both of them! Aaron will be back at the shop tomorrow!
Here endeth "The Report".
Best, Capt. Chris

Just heard some not-do-good news from Dano. Everyone continue to pray. Scott had an aggravation to some attempts to get him weened off of the O-2 and off of the Vent. For now, he is back on the vent, but at a smaller degree and they will see how it goes.
I'll give ya'll more when I hear more.

Here's the latest on our good friend Scott. This is from Dano...who, by the way, is handling all of this (at least on the outside) remarkably well.
Scott had a tracheotomy performed yesterday morning around 10:00 AM and the surgery went well. He is still on the ventilator but the trach will give him more flexibilty in his head and neck. It will also allow the lessions on Scott's face (from the ventilator) to be mended-up now that those tubes are elsewhere.
As of this printing, Scott's ventilator is set at 30% and 8 peeps and he is retaining 95% which if great results, especially considering minor surgery less than 24 hours ago.
Please hit you knees members.
Thanks, Capt. Chris

We got a pretty good update on Scotty today!

He is slowly coming off sedation and intravenous pain meds. He opened an eye today to look at Gail and squeezed her hand <3. He's getting 99-100% saturation from his oxygen, with Vent still set at 30%, so it's good that it's going up and holding. And no fever.

He still has a long way to go, but today's report is a very positive 1!

Keep the prayers coming for Scotty and Steve White! I know they are DEFENITELY felt and appreciated!

Members,
There's no simple...nor easy, way to say this. Scott has taken a turn for the worst. I just received a text from Dano stating that Scott had a reaction, possibly from being taken off of his meds, and coming off of the sedation. As a result, Scott vomitted and instead of that vial discharging out of his throat it went into his lungs! Do to this, along with the pneumonia in his lungs, Scott went into critical condition!
The nurses and Doctors had to (In Dano's words) paralyze Scott and his ventilator is back to 100%. The Doctor is giving him 24-48 hours to come out of this. Dano has asked his Mom to give Scott the full 48 hours and we all know Scott is a fighter. Until this set back the medical staff was amazed at Scott's progress.
Please pray for all concerned and also for the Doctors and nurses who are involved. This is Gail and Dano's wishes...as well as mine, thanks.
Capt. Chris

Latest update and thanks to Dano for keeping me (& therefore all of you) informed. Whatever we're all doing...KEEP IT UP!!
Remarkably, Scott is showing improvement as of yesterday evening:
* Oxygen is set @ 50% with 95% saturation
* His heart rate dropped from 140 to 105-100 range
* Fever down from 104 to 98.8
* Per Dano, Scott is stabilizing....How 'bout them apples?
We all know he has a long ways to go and it has been a long fight already but signs like all-of-the-above gives us hope!
Thanks for your continued prayers and support.
Best, Capt. Chris

Apologies for not posting this last night but I didn't get it until 10:30 PM and had already put the ol' phones on charge! Here's the latest report from Dano.
Scott is still in ICU but has been moved to a room with a window, which Dano thinks will relieve some of his anxiety. He has tested negative for Covid! The fight is now with the toxins in his lungs from the vomitting episode as well as the pneumonia.
Scott is maintaining 8 peeps on the ventilator @ 40%. He is beginning to transitioning off of sedation. Because of the negative Covid test, family may visit for more than half an hour.
All together, this sounds very encouraging to me. Your thoughts and prayers have made a great difference and Dano says so. Let us continue our vigilance to aid Scott's recovery, help him to reduce the toxins and gain more independence from the vent, etc..."&" ease his pain during the transition off of his meds.
Best for now,
Capt. Chris

That’s good news. I had a bad run in with pneumonia last December (vomited during emergency surgery and got a lung full ) - took about a month afterwards before I could climb a flight of stairs without running out of breath but I got better. All that to say that pneumonia is recoverable - hang in there Scott.

Great to report this news! This comes, via Dano, but is directly from Gail..who spent the whole day with Scott.
"We are still in transition from IV to oral medication. Made it through ok!". She goes on to say: "We saw each other for the first real time today and he gave me a smile."
Scott's breathing was way too fast a few times and had to have a "push" of sedation to slow it down. The lungs, on CPap, are being "worked" in her words.
* 40% oxygen
* 12 pressure support
* 98 saturation
Scott is running a low grade fever @ 99 & blood pressure is higher than desired but it is better than it was this morning.
Scott's Dr. came in and told him (Scott) that he was happy with his progress and his only job was "stay relaxed and breathe".
Here's the best for last part: The Doctor told Scott he was doing great and "will go home"! Gail's words: "I Say AMEN To That Report">
I couldn't agree more, Capt. Chris

I have had news, twice this holiday weekend, and it goes a bit "back-n-forth" but nothing tragic to report. I'm editorializing now but I think what I've been reading is just, plain, all a part of it!
I'll keep ya'll posted later.

Scott has improved somewhat. He is "in" ICU but is awaiting a bed/room "out" of ICU. The joint's full! Fever is still up a bit but had been normal for a bit yesterday. He is opening his eyes more and squeezing Gail's hand and pushing with his toes, feet, etc. More encouraging signs than not.
I also talked to Dano on the phone yesterday and he shared all of the same sentiments, although he's still cautious about his Dad. (& who could blame him)
Best for now,
Capt. Chris

Encouraging news, but still a long road but with continued prayers, Scott can overcome. God's blessings on Scott and his family.

Friday update:
Per Dano last night, Scott is much-improved and will "either" be transferred to a room at the hospital..."or" a rehab facility!!
He is still on the vent, but at minimum settings. He is opening his eyes more. In general getting better!
Steps yet:
* Get him off the vent
* Beat-down the remaining MRSA
* Bust-up the balance of that darned blood clot
* Re-train him to walk, talk, etc. etc.
Scot still has a good ways to go everybody but "HE'S GETTIN' THERE!
God Love Him,
Capt. Chris

Thanks for continuing updates, Cap. As Scott continues to regain some strength,
and learns of how the prayer hotline has been kept red by all of his friends’ and family’s prayers, he’ll REALLY start to kick Covid’s butt!

I know I've been absent from making comments, but it is not for lack of caring. Often I prefer to keep deeper feelings to myself. Of course, I have the deepest respect and the best of wishes for Scott. I am not the most eloquent, but my wishes for his speedy recovery run deep.

Per Dano, Scott is on another floor, in a room with 4 windows, a sofa and a recliner! He is opening his eyes more and even watched a tad of football, over the weekend. Vent's still in but reduced.
More good news later on, let's pray,
Capt. Chris

Scott has been sent to a long-term re-hab and PT facility. He is still on the vent although a lower level. His ongoing "process" will be in minute increments and it will be a couple of months at this location. That's all I have heard...sorry. I know Dano asked for continued prayers for Scott & Gail.

Perhaps this is not appropriate, but I would like to send a card and a note to Scott. Maybe getting a written note/card from forumites might give him a lift.
If you think it is appropriate could you run it by Dano and Gail.

Everyone,
I just received an “all hands on deck” plea from Dano. Scott has been rushed from the re-hab facility to the nearest hospital’s ICU with “air in his stomach & kidneys”!! I won’t go into anymore details as I am attempting this messsge on my IPhone but “All Prayer Warriors” on deck!! (Dano’s words).
Let us pray for knowledgeable Drs & nurses to get a grip on this setback…Thanks to all of you.
God Bless,
Capt. Chris

Gail has reported that Scott is doing "a little better". His skin has good color and he was able to wake up and know who Gail was. No puncture in the bowel but the large intestine is infected. Scott is on "3" antibiotics.
All tests run, thus far, are better than was expected! Tests are being run to see what meds are necessary...or not. He is comfortable, most of the time...
When I hear more...so will you all.
Best for now,
Capt. Chris

Without going into great detail, much of which I care note to discuss anyway...Here's some very good news.
* Scott is in the right place with the right personnel
* Gail is "keeping" Scott in the right place with the right personnel.
* For those who have Scott's phone/text # you can "text" him...
* ...and LASTLY ....Scott is "off" the ventilator!!!!!!!!!!! Nuff said....Keep prayin' for all of them!
Thanks, Capt. Chris

I was at the shop today and talked to Dano, as well as receiving a text from Gail. Scott is improving, has a new Dr. on the team and actually stood a couple of times today for a minute or so!
This is all good news but Dano & Gail ask for your continued prayers as they all work through this.
Also: While you're at it, throw in a couple for "The Brazells", family friends of the Maynards, who are going through a like situation, in the same ICU!!
Thanks, Capt. Chris

My apologies everyone but I have been "on the road" and rectifying my computer issues. This is the latest I have heard from Dano, albeit a couple of days old news.
Scott has taken a swallow test. No details as to the exact results but they (ICU people) started him on chewing ice chips & sucking on lemon wedges (to start salivary glands). He went through 2 pitchers of ice chips the 1st day! The Dr. passed Scott and the swallow test (duh) as he was able to swallow everything with ease!
Feeding tube you ask? It's gone! Scott is eating 3 meals a day and they have started to release him from some of his meds! He was on 1 antibiotic (which has now ended) and is starting probiotics to get has body back on track. Now...I ain't no Doctor but "Pro" verses "Anti" sound just great to me!
Scott is also communicating more, standing a bit and sitting on the side of his bed. He is still on anxiety meds, 3 times per day to keep him leveled as he continues physical therapy and he is also on baby aspirin for his blood clot.
He has been taken off antibiotics and other meds for the diabetes since he's showing normal signs now and no diabetic history prior.
Lastly, Dano told me it has been a very emotional week this past week for Scott....but in a good way! He was in tears when as he was surrounded by nurses, student nurses, doctors and friends as they removed his feeding tube from his nose. He has also been more verbal now as he is starting to communicate his feeling of lost time and what he had gone through mentally as he's been healing.
Scott was also in tears as Sunday he watched an online church service and heard familiar voices he hasn't in a long time.
Scott's physical therapy is going well and he is moving his arms and legs everyday. He will be undergoing shrinking of his Trach hole & as it gets smaller they will be able to close it up and he can breathe on his own. Overall an emotional week for sure. Awesome was Dano's word for it.
Please keep The Maynard's friends, The Brazell family in your prayers. Their Father was in ICU and passed away this past Saturday morning. Keep up all of your prayers and thanks for everyone.
Dano & Capt. Chris

He is getting better for sure. He has transitioned out of the Hospital and into a rehab facility for a couple weeks. The trach is out and the hole has closed up. He's getting there. It's still a long road but he is definitely traveling it the right direction.

Keep the Prayers and Positive energy coming for he and Gail.

Scott is also talking a decent amount. He will stay at PT/Rehab for an undetermined length of time before he can go home. He has lost 50 pounds. Signs, best as I can tell, are all looking up, per my texts from Dano & Aaron over the past week.
More to come...

Last night was incredible! I texted Scott and asked him if he was off "phone restriction". A few minutes later he called me! We actually had a small conversation!
Although Scott cannot speak loudly nor lengthy, it was him...my buddy and it was great to hear his voice! Praise to all who helped in this.
We talked about the epic piece of baseball history set by the Red Sox yesterday. In case you don't follow baseball, the Red Sox hit a grand slam in the 1st....followed by another grand slam in the 2nd! Never, in the history of baseball has any team in the playoffs done this...in any amount of innings...NEVER!
Best news about this piece of history is that it made Scott smile.
That, my friends, is historic...for me anyway!
Best and thanks to all for your support,
Capt. Chris

Tell Scott that they're goofing off in the 14 room. That will get him up and running.
