Pap,

Thanks that was a great article.

Walk softly and carry a big gun! I pulled mine three times on Black Bears while we skinned one. Luckily didn't have to shoot, but they were all interested in what we were working on. Black Bears will cannibalize each other; I don't think they were interested in me or the guide.

Tom:

If you don’t mind me asking, where were you when you had this picture made?

It is absolutely gorgeous there!

Coach that was an inlet off of Columbia Bay/Prince William Sound about 8 hours by boat Southwest of Valdez Alaska. We were on a small Island had a 376 yard shot. Already got my Mountain Goat and we were Black Bear hunting. My guide said give me your camera you'll thank me later.

The spot we were at the tide went out at least an 8' drop and had to sit there till 10:00 at night after skinning the Bear until the tide came back in. It was an interesting hour ride back to the main boat dodging ice flows from the Columbia Glacier in the dark.

In my holster I had my hand cannon S&W .500 Magnum with a 4" barrel.

GCTom,
With that S&W 500 I think that the trick is you give it to the bear to shoot???

Sure way to kill it!!!!

I touched off a 444 Marlin in a T/C Contender with 6 inch bbl once. I did say once...right?

I will tell you, when I touched that off,I knew that the bull pooped in the buckwheat for sure!!!!!!!!!!

Those cals. kill on both ends. 44 mag. is my limit, and that is more than I like.

Peter, that is a nice collection, I have three of those plus a few more. My Ruger is a Mk.4, I bought it for my wife as she liked shooting it more than her nine because of the noise the 9 made.

Pete,
Now those are my speed!!!

Yes,I have some heavy hitters, but it is far more enjoyable for me to just plink with those mild mannered calibers
