That's awesome. How in the world do you run into someone like that!

Way back in 1972, I was in the only open bar in Island Park, Idaho, Pond's Lodge in late November. There were maybe 6 of us locals in the bar that night. About 9:30 on a Friday night, in walks 3 cowboys and belly up to the bar. It didn't take long to find out the main character was Buck Taylor, Newly from Gunsmoke. It was widely known that Buck was involved in a ranch and big subdivision near Ennis, Montana just over the divide from us. Come to find out that his plane was diverted to Idaho Falls, and they had to rent a vehicle and drive from Idaho Falls to Ennis. They had to drive hours through basically nothing, and saw the lights on at Pond's Lodge. They were hungry and thirsty. We rustled up some sandwiches for them, and tried to get them to spend the night at the lodge. In the mean time, I had a long conversation with Buck regarding old trappers in Idaho and Montana, and ran home and got around 10 books on that subject, and gave them all to him.
Then, many years later while working in Arizona, Buck was part of a big western show in Cave Creek. I introduced myself and told him we had met 35 years ago. He obviously didn't remember me, but when I mentioned the Pond's Lodge incident and the books, he immediately remembered that night. That's the story. We saw him again the next year and just said hello again. Very nice guy, and a heck of an artist.
