well...you can youtube it....I ran across the recipe in an old cooking magazine(I throw away nothing)....I found it interesting.....seems this is an old technique....nothing new....a way to preserve fruit, when in season.....preserve it with rum.....anyway, i got interested, and decided to give it a try.....I plan to make up some Ball jars for Christmas gifts, IF it works out....and drink the remainder of the rum!!!
not much else to report....a plan in progress, for someone that has little to do...

We used to make something similar--brandied fruits. The jar sat out on the counter. When we took a portion out, we'd replace it with more fruit, brandy, etc. It was great on ice cream!

Made Salisbury steak, onion gravy and garlic mashed tonight for daughter Terry and family. Came out pretty good.

Gosh Pappy! You sure know how to cook with cast iron!!

I swear nothing tastes better than stuff cooked in seasoned cast iron.

Pappy,
Are you sure you did not work at Orems or Bob's Charcoal??

You had to have gotten your cooking skills from somewhere?

You will laugh. I grew up hungry as a kid in Virginia, I rode thousands of miles on my bike fishing or exploring new woods. I think I was 11 and had been biking all day, and passed a Mom & Pop Cafe around 3pm and smelled a burger cooking. Didn't have any money, but went in and asked the cook/owner if I could sweep out the place in exchfor a burger. He said yes, but I had to cook my own burger and he would show me how. Except for mowing lawns, that was my first job and first cooking experience. After that, I would stop by that Cafe on a Saturday afternoon when not much was going on, sweep the place and make me a hamburger, with fried onions.

At Bob's in Wilton, I learned how to work a charcoal grill, but never actually worked there. He would let me cook my own burger or hotdogs for half price. His shakes were the best. Always loved to cook, even with the Boy Scouts, through hi G school, college and beyond. Always cooked at hunting camp as well. It's not work for me.
