I bought something on eBay this week, and PayPal was not the processer of money!!! It's about time...eBay told me a couple months that it was coming in March, so, I guess it's here....apparently you on longer have to use PayPal as the only payment option!!!
Sweeeet!!!

That's in part due to the laws that allow the the seller to charge the processing fee to the buyer on a credit card purchase.

Who did process the money?
I think Paypal just became convenient as a default, and the buyers protection seemed comforting.

Have purchased on Ebay where PayPal was not an option. Had to use a credit card.

I was told, and experienced through ALL my sales, that PayPal was the ONLY form of payment allowed on eBay...there was a time when there were others(per eBay), however not recently....BUT is changing(per eBay)
anyway....I'll be selling stuff next week, and, if possible...NO PAYPAL!!!
almost forgot.....there was no PayPal option...it was credit card or debit card only....I was taken aback, but in a hurry, and didn't explore much...time will tell

who knows

PayPal & Ebay used to be owned by the same company (maybe still are).......that's why it was the only choice.

I ain't likely...to use a Dutch based financial institution!

It is bad enough taking risks with a CONUS company.

PayPal asked, when I logged in yesterday, that I provide a photo ID and my SSN!

While that might be a requirement under the banking laws, I don't trust them.

I sent the following email to them, waiting for any reply:

PayPal email
March 1, 2019
Sent to them:

You are asking for my SSN and a photo ID.

I see enough digital services getting hacked, or carelessly losing personal information, that I do not want to give any more specifics than are actually needed to conduct transactions.

When personal data is lost or stolen, the holder of that information merely informs people (sometimes months after the event), sometimes apologizes, but cannot in any way protect the individual from the misuse of their information.

Over-collection is endemic to the digital industry. Every effort should be made to avoid unnecessary collection in the interest of the private citizens' personal and financial security.

Yup, I have tech-friends that were employed by eBayPayPal when they split. Some went to eBay, some went to PayPal, most didn't get a voice in the matter and promptly left as soon as they secured another gig.
