This has been one of my favorite Al Mars.
Al Mar Fighter with a 8" AUS-6 Stainless Steel Blade. The hilt was engraved by Robert Valade 1-11-92. Black micarta fingered handle. Eagle nylon web sheath.

Tony, Very Nice Pack Rat I and Leather Sheath.
I love the White Micarta color on these. It is interesting how the sheath played into the eventual color shade of the handle today. Covered sheath, lighter gold color. The group pictured are all USA Japan marked, so 38 years old.

Al Mar put out some of the most handsome production knives of all time. You have a right to like them.
My only regret is not seeing this thread before Tony asked if anyone else had a Pack Rat, and stopping him before he said it. Bloody lucky nobody was killed by the avalanche I knew was coming, considering who all was posting here. Not gonna mention names, but their initials are E-R-I-C.

Lofty, What can I say.....I have always been drawn to an edged weapon. I simply love Knives. If it ain't knives it's Martial Arms. I am just glad I get to live in a country that still allows old goats like me to collect these pieces of history. We are all just caretakers.

Thank you Rob, Model 1899 Carbine - 1900 receiver with a 1901 stock.
I believe they used Italian Walnut on these stocks.

That's all nice and everything, but still nothing compared to your toilet paper collection.
And glad, most of all, that you actually post photos of the stuff. Many just buy it, hoard and sit on it, nobody sees it, they die, family breaks it up and sells it, and we start all over. You are entirely correct as to caretaker (or destroyer),....as I told my old gun dealer, "Charlie, I don't buy guns, I just lease them."

Lofty, Toilet paper is a luxury, that's why it's not polite to extend your left hand for a handshake in some countries.
I like rarely found items best. Like this 1904 Johnson and Johnson linen wound bandage with its Rock Island Arsenal first aid pouch.

So is bathing a luxury in many countries, and often seen as unhealthy even in "advanced" countries, as it was even here until relatively recently, as far as history goes. Many countries, extending a hand at all is the height of rudeness or aggression.
I like the illustrated bandage, and in that condition is amazing. Like a detailed E&E map for bacteria, or cheat sheet for a Red Cross cert test, or French battle flag (sorry, could not resist). I wonder where that entire "first help" pouch had been hiding all these years to stay so new.

Lofty, Some pics are deceiving. The linen has staining and brown aging stains along the folded areas.
Al Mar Leather SOG with Black leather Sheath instead of Brown.

That bandage is still in incredibly great condition, better condition than it would have had in 10mins in the training field.
I have a confession to make. Despite Al Mar making some of the very best looking knives of the time, I never bought even one. Not ONE. And that is sad, when I could have had some real history with one to recall fondly today.
